Stablecoins account for 94 % of the trading volume between the Argentine peso and cryptocurrencies, according to a16z crypto’s report, the highest proportion among the major national currencies studied. This dominance persists despite inflation falling to around 2.1 % and the easing of dollar purchase restrictions in April 2025, which reduced the digital dollar premium to roughly 4 %. Approximately one in five Argentinians now uses cryptocurrencies, and downloads of the country’s leading crypto apps surged by 93 % in 2024. Bitcoin and other tokens occupy a very minor place in these transactions, as stablecoins have become a standard financial infrastructure for saving, receiving payments and transferring money.
