Asian equity markets fell on Wednesday as renewed US airstrikes on Iran pushed oil prices higher and triggered a global bond selloff. South Korea’s KOSPI dropped more than 3% and the Nikkei 225 fell 2.6%. Brent crude reached $95.91 per barrel, its highest level in five weeks. The US 10-year Treasury yield hit 4.8122%, its highest in almost three years. Bitcoin fell to $77,000 and ether to $2,410.73. The probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike at its September meeting jumped to 67%, up from 39.6% a week earlier.
