Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed allowing intermediaries to facilitate retail access to certain digital asset derivatives traded overseas. Eligible products would need to resemble crypto derivatives traded domestically, including underlying assets, maturity, leverage, and settlement methods. They must also trade on an exchange using a central counterparty for clearing and overseen by a regulator belonging to recognized international regulatory groups. Crypto derivatives not meeting these proposed conditions could only be offered to institutional investors, deemed better equipped to assess and manage these complex, high-risk products. The consultation remains open until September 30.
