GlobalWafers outlines US expansion plans at SEMICON Taiwan, eyes $7.5B total investment

GlobalWafers, the world’s third-largest silicon wafer maker, outlined its US expansion strategy at SEMICON Taiwan, envisioning up to $7.5 billion in total investment at its Sherman, Texas facility. The company opened a $3.5 billion plant in May 2025, the first 300mm advanced wafer manufacturing facility built in the US in over two decades. In July 2026, Micron committed $500 million alongside a 10-year supply agreement. GlobalWafers has also secured up to $406 million in CHIPS Act funding, while phase two of the Sherman expansion was confirmed in January 2026.
