According to CoinGecko’s 2026 State of Crypto Security Report, 147 out of 245 hacked platforms, approximately 60%, had undergone independent security audits before being exploited. Those audited platforms accounted for 88.44% of all stolen funds during the study period, while the ten largest attacks alone represented over 72.5% of total losses. A total of $3.63 billion was stolen across 245 incidents between January 2025 and July 2026, including $1.8 billion from infrastructure and supply-chain vulnerabilities. Only about 11% of incidents involved vulnerabilities that fell within actual audit scope, representing $396 million in losses. Active crypto insurance coverage dropped 20.2% to $130.2 million, a negligible amount compared to documented losses.
