Nvidia is bolstering support for Chinese open AI models as it warns of White House crackdown

Nvidia announced it is strengthening optimization of its hardware for Chinese artificial intelligence models, notably DeepSeek and Alibaba’s Qwen, to outpace domestic chipmakers. A regulatory filing with the SEC warned of business risks from potential White House restrictions on AI developed in China. Second-quarter results beat expectations and the share price has risen more than 10% since early 2026. Over twenty companies, including Microsoft, Meta and Palantir, urged policymakers to avoid premature restrictions on open-source models. Analysts worry that Chinese models, which are increasingly capable and typically cheaper, may become the default choice for developing countries.
