Qatar and Iran are discussing a temporary joint shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz following diplomatic talks held in Tehran on August 25. The proposed interim framework includes a joint corridor, a coordinated mine-clearance project, and efforts to restore conditions to their pre-February 28 state. Oman is also involved in the negotiations, leveraging its shared control of the Strait with Iran. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani traveled to Tehran on August 27 to push for de-escalation and resumed dialogue between the US and Iran. Approximately one-fifth of global oil and LNG shipments transit through this strait daily.
