CoinGecko reports $3.63 billion in crypto losses from January 2025 through early August 2026. In 2025 alone, $2.55 billion was stolen across 97 incidents, though the Bybit exchange breach attributed to North Korean actors accounted for roughly $1.4 to $1.5 billion of that total. The first seven months of 2026 show approximately $1.2 billion in losses across 164 incidents, a nearly 70% increase in breach frequency compared to all of 2025. April 2026 was particularly devastating with over $644 million in losses in a single month. Cumulative crypto hack losses since 2016 now exceed $14.27 billion.
