Bill Gates Wants Up to 40% of Jobs Reserved for Humans, Not AI

Bill Gates has proposed a concept called Human Reserved aimed at protecting up to 40% of jobs from AI automation. The Microsoft cofounder is also pushing for taxes on AI usage and robots, arguing that current tax rules incentivize employers to replace workers with machines. According to Challenger, Gray and Christmas, AI was cited in 184,538 job cuts since 2023, accounting for 33% of monthly cuts in July 2026. Goldman Sachs notes that US call center employment stands 39% below its long-run trend. Gates acknowledges that the question of which authority would determine protected jobs remains open.
