NEAR Protocol becomes first major blockchain with post-quantum key support

Share

NEAR Protocol activated post-quantum signing support on its mainnet on July 20, 2026, becoming one of the first major blockchain networks to deploy a production-ready quantum-resistant signature scheme. Delivered through network upgrade 2.13, the update implements the NIST-standard ML-DSA-65 lattice-based signature scheme. Users can now rotate their account keys to a quantum-resistant scheme with a single on-chain transaction, requiring no asset migration and no new wallet address. This protection extends to over 30 other blockchains, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, through Chain Signatures and NEAR Intents.
