U.S.-based computing and printing firm HP has signed a multi-year global agreement to license WiFi patents from Chinese telecoms giant Huawei. This agreement illustrates the adoption of Huawei’s technology outside China despite the U.S. blacklisting the company in 2019, which restricted it from working with American suppliers such as Google. The deal follows an intellectual property dispute resulting in an arrangement allowing HP to access a portfolio of 2,000 patents related to wireless network connectivity, included in the Sisvel WiFi 6 patent pool. Steven Geiszler, Huawei’s former senior in-house intellectual property lawyer who founded his own firm in April, represented the Chinese company in these negotiations.
