Canada to impose tariffs on more than 700 US-made products

Canada will impose counter-tariffs of up to 50% on more than 700 US-made products in retaliation for new American import taxes. These measures, effective September 8, target approximately $19.9 billion in US imports, representing C$27.6 billion in 2024. The products covered include steel, aluminum, dairy, fish, plywood, paper, and various consumer goods. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government said the measures target industries hurt by US protectionism. Milk, cream, and whey will face a 50% levy, while cheese and curd will be taxed at 25%.
