On August 22, Bitcoin’s price on Binance plummeted to $72,500 while the broader market held near $79,000. On Coinbase, the lowest price remained at $75,800, creating a $3,300 spread between the two platforms. The anomaly triggered a cascade of forced liquidations and wiped out stop-loss orders exclusively for Binance clients. Peter Brandt called it another Binance boondoggle that pushed ordinary retail traders over the cliff.
