Oil trades lower even as Bessent promises ‘economic D-Day’ announcement on Iran

Oil futures fell Monday as traders awaited details about new U.S. sanctions on Iran, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent scheduled to announce the measures at a 1 p.m. Eastern news conference. U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude lost 1.4% to around $86 per barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude slipped 1% to about $92 per barrel. The key question is how any new U.S. sanctions might affect China, the top buyer of Iranian crude oil.
