Samsung Electronics stock posts worst day in three weeks as memory chip sector slides

Samsung Electronics shares fell by 10% on July 7 and more than 13% on July 28, dragging the entire memory chip sector down with it. The company’s operating profit surged approximately 1,800% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026, reaching between $59 billion and $62 billion. Memory stocks including SK Hynix and Micron have lost more than 20% from their recent highs, confirming the subsector’s entry into bear market territory. Samsung had climbed 150% to 200% year-to-date by July 2026, but investors are now concerned about rising competition from Chinese player CXMT and the sustainability of hyperscalers’ AI infrastructure spending.
