One in ten English-language webpages now shows significant signs of AI authorship, according to a Pew Research Center study published Thursday. When restricted to pages published after ChatGPT launched in November 2022, that share jumps to 35 percent. Researchers analyzed roughly 490,000 pages from the Common Crawl web archive spanning January 2021 through July 2026 using the Open Pangram detection tool. Educational and government domains show rates near 1 percent, compared to 4.6 percent for .org and roughly 10 percent for .com, where AI authorship climbed from 1 percent in January 2021 to 9.35 percent by January 2026.
