Artificial intelligence is lowering the technical barrier to exploit vulnerabilities in software built around Bitcoin, according to pseudonymous developer Calle. The Bitcoin Red Team, consisting of roughly 20 to 25 volunteers, conducts proactive security scans across the Bitcoin ecosystem and has spent approximately $20,000 so far. Chinese AI models like Kimi K3 are preferred by these researchers because their American counterparts frequently block cybersecurity-related requests due to strict guardrails. While no issues have been found in the Bitcoin protocol itself, third-party applications, wallets, and services represent the main vulnerability, and attackers have a direct financial incentive to target cryptocurrency.
