Tesla is voluntarily recalling approximately 3 million vehicles in China to address two distinct safety issues: retractable door handles that can prevent occupants from evacuating quickly during severe collisions, and driver monitoring systems for partially automated driving features. The company will deploy over-the-air software updates to automatically lower windows after accident detection and enhance in-cabin camera monitoring. The recall affects Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X vehicles produced between 2019 and 2026. Tesla faces intensifying competition in China, where Model Y deliveries fell by 18 percent in July 2025 to 25,158 units.
