In July 2021, Elon Musk defended Bitcoin at The B Word conference by arguing that no authority could force it to empty its accounts, since the network has no throat to choke. Tesla purchased $1.5 billion of Bitcoin in early 2021 and sold roughly 75 % of its holdings by mid-2022 for a total of $936 million. SpaceX, on the other hand, has never sold a single Bitcoin since its first disclosures, holding 18,712 BTC acquired at a cost of $661 million. Together, Tesla and SpaceX hold 30,221 BTC, valued at approximately $2.37 billion at the current price of around $78,570. The contrast between the two strategies shows that while nobody can force these companies to sell, Tesla did so voluntarily, something no blockchain ledger can prevent.
