The United States has intensified its sanctions campaign against Hezbollah by targeting Lebanese officials accused of supporting the group. On May 21, the US Treasury sanctioned nine Lebanese officials, including sitting parliament members and security personnel, for obstructing disarmament efforts. On June 18, additional sanctions were imposed on more officials and previously sanctioned business networks. A bipartisan bill, the Lebanon Sanctions, Stabilization, and Support Act, introduced on August 7, would condition US security assistance to Lebanon on tangible progress toward Hezbollah’s disarmament.
