CFTC Chair Michael Selig said at the inaugural meeting of the agency’s Innovation Advisory Committee that the CFTC would adopt new rules on crypto assets even if Congress fails to pass the CLARITY Act. He has already directed staff to allow crypto asset trading on a leveraged or margined basis and explore developer protections. The Senate vote on the bill is paused until September and will require 60 votes to pass. These remarks came a day after Trump met with crypto industry leaders at the White House, while Democrats are calling for stronger ethics provisions regarding the Trump family’s crypto investments, which generated 1.4 billion dollars in 2025. Selig is currently the only Senate-confirmed commissioner at the CFTC.
