Scott Bessent urges G20 to refocus on core mission of growth, with digital assets on the agenda

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on February 19 the priorities for America’s 2026 G20 presidency, focused on global economic growth, sovereign debt management, and financial stability. His 3-3-3 plan targets 3% average GDP growth, annual budget deficits capped at 3% of GDP, and a daily increase of 3 million barrels in US oil production. The US Treasury explicitly included digital assets on the G20 agenda, representing a paradigm shift: crypto is no longer viewed as a risk to be regulated but as financial infrastructure to be developed. The G20 Finance Ministerial is scheduled in Asheville, North Carolina, from August 29 to September 1, 2026. This recognition by the world’s most powerful economic forum could accelerate capital inflows from traditional finance into the crypto sector.
