Flock’s New AI Police Tool Can Track Drivers Without a Name or License Plate

Flock Safety, a surveillance company whose cameras operate in more than 6,000 U.S. communities, has developed an AI tool called OS Investigate. The system offers 69 prewritten prompts allowing police to access license plate scans, arrest records, and commercial databases containing Social Security numbers. Fourteen of these prompts require no plate, name, or description, only a location, a time window, and a behavior pattern. The tool can also identify « associates » by tracking vehicles appearing at the same cameras within a two-minute window. This technology has sparked activism, with at least 33 cameras damaged across 23 states, while a congressman prepares legislation to strip federal funding from agencies using the system.
