Binance reportedly handed Russian authorities the transaction details of Yuri Belenkiy, an IT specialist holding a Bulgarian residency permit and Russian passport, according to Reuters. Belenkiy was accused of terrorist financing by Russia’s Investigative Committee after allegedly sending over $700 to Ukrainian military forces and another military group via Binance between January 2023 and March 2024. A legal expert said Binance was not required to provide this data and may have broken EU data protection laws. Binance stated it cooperates with lawful information requests from law enforcement globally while emphasizing it remains neutral.
