The Solana network nearly halted completely on Wednesday morning when a routing error at hosting provider Teraswitch disconnected 28.83% of all staked SOL within minutes. The network reached 86% of the 33.34% threshold beyond which Solana stops finalizing transactions, just five percentage points away from a full shutdown. Around 90 validators went offline and 333 SOL in rewards were lost, worth approximately $25,600. The Solana Foundation Delegation Program’s 25% cap on any single autonomous system’s stake has already been breached, with ASN AS20326 concentrating 27.34% of staked SOL. The last complete network halt occurred in February 2024, ending a 351-day uptime streak.
