Tether boosts gold reserves to 146 tonnes, now worth $19B

Tether acquired an additional 14 tonnes of gold in the second quarter of 2026, bringing its total gold reserves to 146 tonnes, valued at approximately $18.8 billion. The issuer of the USDT stablecoin has positioned itself as one of the largest private holders of gold in the world, outside governments and central banks. Gold now represents approximately 10% of Tether’s total reserves, which amount to $187.8 billion. This diversification strategy aims to strengthen the collateral backing its stablecoin, the largest dollar-pegged currency in the market.
