Ken Griffin’s Citadel fund acquired a large portion of the public stock portfolio of Situational Awareness, the hedge fund founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, after heavy losses during July’s artificial intelligence stock market rout. The fund lost approximately 67% in July, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, though it still showed a gain of about 80% year-to-date. Situational Awareness sold $3.5 billion in Anthropic shares to a group led by Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital, while retaining roughly $10 billion in stocks and private investments. The fund held positions in several Bitcoin miners including Core Scientific, Riot Platforms and CleanSpark, as well as stakes in CoreWeave, Sandisk and Bloom Energy.
