Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao has backed the concept of passporting crypto licenses across ASEAN member countries, speaking at the ASEAN Summit in Manila. ASEAN currently lacks a bloc-wide crypto passport, although the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum has established mutual recognition frameworks for collective investment schemes and professional mobility. Zhao drew parallels with the European Union’s approach under MiCA, where authorized crypto-asset service providers can serve clients across member states through passporting rights. He acknowledged that differences in national policies make regional alignment challenging but advocated for streamlined processes for firms already licensed in one market.
