Circle has acquired IBM’s blockchain patent portfolio, comprising over 680 patent families and nearly 1,000 issued patents. This acquisition makes Circle the largest blockchain patent holder in the United States. The patents cover blockchain technology, banking, financial services, enterprise infrastructure, supply chain verification, and secure cloud operations. The deal is expected to support the development of products including USDC, Circle Payments Network, and Arc. Circle shares rose 4.84 % to $65.38 during Monday’s trading session. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
