$17B in crypto scams – Why Chainalysis and ACAMS are joining forces

Illicit cryptocurrency addresses received at least $154 billion in 2025, with nearly $17 billion coming from scams and fraud. In response to this surge, ACAMS and Chainalysis announced on October 8, 2026, a partnership to strengthen anti-financial crime training related to cryptocurrencies, featuring an enhanced CCAS certification. At ACAMS’ The Assembly Las Vegas 2026, 79% of surveyed professionals identified digital assets as their biggest knowledge gap. North Korean hackers remain the most active, having stolen approximately $1.5 billion in the Bybit hack in February 2025 and laundered over $1 billion between February and June 2025. The year 2026 has already recorded $2.243 billion in total value hacked, while AI-enabled scams have surged by approximately 500% over the past year.
