Approximately 12,224 ZEC, worth roughly $15 million to $16 million, remain in Zcash’s original Sprout privacy pool. The NU7 upgrade, scheduled for block 3,543,405, will invalidate version-4 transactions, the only format currently capable of moving those funds out of Sprout. Holders must transfer their ZEC before activation or risk losing access indefinitely. The coins will not be destroyed and will continue to count toward Zcash’s circulating supply, but a future upgrade restoring their spendability is not guaranteed. NU7 will also reduce the target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, making transactions roughly three times faster to confirm.
