A study published on arXiv reveals that XRP Ledger consensus can be compromised by removing just 12% of the most central nodes. Researchers demonstrate that adding two or three extra peer connections per node raises the quorum critical attack threshold from 11-12% to 33-38%, representing a 2.75 to 3.45 times improvement. The study is based on a representative 2022 network map with 952 nodes and 15,070 edges. Today, the live network shows approximately 786 discoverable nodes and 35 validators on the XRP Foundation UNL. The authors call for operational testing on mainnet before confirming these results on current infrastructure.
