The XRP Ledger developers disclosed and patched a critical integer overflow bug in their payment engine that could have allowed an attacker to create counterfeit XRP. This vulnerability had been present since 2015 and went unnoticed because no ordinary payment could trigger the overflow. The fix was deployed on September 25 in version 3.4.1, with over 80% of the network’s validators running it the same day, bypassing the usual two-week voting process. There is no evidence the bug was ever exploited, according to the XRP Ledger team. XRP traded at $1.38 on Monday, down 1.6% over 24 hours and 9.4% over the past seven days.
