World ID: Sam Altman wants to protect banks from deepfakes

Share

World, the identity project co-founded by Sam Altman, has launched World ID for banking and finance, a suite of tools designed to combat AI-driven fraud in the banking sector. The offering is based on three proof levels: Proof of Human (iris scan via the Orb), Proof of Presence (live selfie), and Proof of Attributes (age or nationality verification). Five companies are already exploring this technology: Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital, and VanEck Funds. The initiative follows the Arup scandal in 2024, where an employee transferred 25.6 million dollars after a video conference entirely composed of deepfakes. Worldcoin (WLD) is up 10.06% to 0.566 dollar, with a market cap of 2.16 billion dollars, but the project remains under regulatory scrutiny in Kenya, Brazil, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Bavaria.
