Wall Street recovers from volatile week as AI boom shows first real cracks

Wall Street managed a partial rebound after one of its toughest periods of the year, with the Dow Jones falling more than 0.75%, the S&P 500 dropping roughly 1%, and the Nasdaq sliding 1.4% during the week of July 18-25. Nvidia and other AI chipmakers bore the brunt of the sell-off as investors began questioning the financial viability of their substantial investments. Hyperscalers, the cloud giants underpinning the AI boom, had issued 159 billion dollars in bonds earlier in 2026. Cryptocurrencies were not spared, with Bitcoin showing notable weakness relative to seasonal patterns, while Ethereum attracted more favorable analyst attention.
