Vista Energy up 5% after billionaire Peter Thiel buys stake in the Argentine shale oil producer

Peter Thiel’s investment fund Thiel Macro LLC acquired nearly 1.2 million American Depository Shares of Vista Energy, valued at approximately $76 million, according to a filing with the SEC for the second quarter ended June 30. Vista Energy shares rose 5.4% in Monday premarket trading following the disclosure. This stake represents the fund’s second-largest position after Amazon. Vista is the largest independent energy company in Argentina, operating in the Vaca Muerta basin where it develops shale oil extraction, with cumulative investments exceeding $6.5 billion in the country.
