Vanguard International Semiconductor, a TSMC affiliate, is considering building a second chip plant in Singapore after its first fab sold out its initial capacity before reaching full production. The facility’s initial capacity of roughly 44,000 wafers per month is completely booked, with full utilization now expected by 2028, a full year earlier than originally projected. The $6.7 billion fab uses 30-40nm technology and produces specialty chips ranging from 130nm to 40nm for automotive, industrial, and AI packaging applications. TSMC holds a 27% stake in VIS, and the project has created approximately 1,600 jobs so far. Volume production at the first fab is targeted for Q1 2027.
