VanEck CEO Jan van Eck argues that approving new nuclear power projects could simultaneously boost AI value and reduce Bitcoin sell pressure by lowering electricity costs. Both AI and Bitcoin mining consume massive amounts of electricity, and US nuclear capacity could quadruple over the next 25 years with bipartisan support. Microsoft and Constellation Energy have struck a deal to expedite the restart of a reactor at Three Mile Island, providing low-cost power to tech industries. VanEck manages a nuclear fund, the VanEck Uranium and Nuclear ETF (ticker NLR), which was up approximately 40% for the year and attracted around $2.8 billion in assets by late 2025. If Bitcoin miners diversify their revenue through AI contracts and cheaper electricity, they would need to sell fewer Bitcoin to cover operating costs.
