US widens AI-driven investment gap with Europe as private funding hits $109B

The United States invested $109.1 billion in private AI in 2024, accounting for roughly 81% of global private AI funding. US cumulative AI investment from 2013 to 2024 reached approximately $470 billion, compared to just $50 billion for the European Union over the same period. In 2024, US institutions created 40 notable AI models, while Europe produced three. The European Union plans to invest 10 billion euros to establish seven AI gigafactories, with deployment scheduled for August 2026. AI adoption at work reached 43% in the US by early 2026, compared to 32% on average across surveyed European countries.
