This represents the highest level ever recorded since these statistics began in 1967 and significantly exceeds the pre-pandemic 2019 record. The official poverty rate declined by 0.5 percentage points to 10.2%, affecting 34.5 million people, while child poverty fell to a historic low of 13.4%. However, income inequality continues to widen, with the highest-earning households now making 13 times more than the poorest, compared to 9.2 times in 1967.
