The US government transferred approximately $470 million in seized crypto assets to addresses likely associated with Coinbase Prime, according to blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence. The transferred assets include Bitcoin, wrapped Bitcoin and USDT, and are linked to investigations into the 2016 Bitfinex hack and Alameda Research, the former trading firm controlled by Sam Bankman-Fried. This movement revives questions over a potential asset sale, although the transfer does not prove a sale: possible explanations include internal wallet management, restitution to victims or liquidation. This transaction carries heightened significance following President Donald Trump’s establishment of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in March 2025, whose executive order states that Bitcoin deposited in the reserve shall not be sold.
