The US Department of Justice and FBI have seized 13 domains linked to suspected state-sponsored Chinese hackers. These domains were used to create fake consulting firms and nonprofit organizations targeting Americans holding government and military security clearances. The operators posted fictitious job opportunities with payment in exchange for classified or sensitive information. The operation relied on AI-generated content, including fake LinkedIn profiles with synthetic photos and fabricated identities. The campaign ran for nearly two years, from November 2023 through October 2025, and the Five Eyes intelligence alliance also warned of similar tactics targeting personnel across its member countries.
