US Bitcoin reserve bill gains momentum after 28-21 vote – But can it become law?

The US Bitcoin reserve bill cleared a key hurdle in the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday, September 16th, passing with a 28-21 vote. The legislation, formally known as the American Modernization Act (H.R. 8957), was introduced in May by Congressman Nick Begich alongside 20 co-sponsors. The prediction platform Polymarket estimated only a 6% chance of this bill becoming law in 2026. Forecasts suggested Democrats could regain House control in November elections with approximately 90% probability, which could permanently stall the bill’s progress.
