The US Army has announced the Janus Program, which plans to deploy over 20 microreactors across five military installations with funding of up to $2.2 billion between 2027 and 2031. Five companies were selected to build these reactors: Antares Nuclear (Fort Bragg), BWXT Advanced Technologies (Fort Campbell), General Atomics (Fort Hood), Radiant Industries (Fort Benning), and Westinghouse (Fort Drum). The first unit is expected to be operational by September 30, 2028. This initiative marks the US military’s return to nuclear power after decades, following Executive Order 14299 which directs federal agencies to prioritize resilient, off-grid power for critical military operations.
