Unstoppable Domains skips ICANN round, refunds Web3 domain customers

Unstoppable Domains sold over four million blockchain-based domain names. The company announced it would not file applications for its Web3 top-level domains in ICANN’s 2026 expansion round, after an ICANN report proposed rules requiring re-registration of existing names, annual renewal fees, and disclosure of registrant information. Customers who bought domains under affected TLDs (.crypto, .wallet, .polygon, .nft, .bitcoin, .dao, .unstoppable, .zil, and .blockchain) can request refunds for purchases made on or after March 5, 2025, through September 25, 2026. The company remains involved in five partner applications, including Telegram’s .gram proposal, and clarified that existing domains continue to function within the blockchain ecosystem.
