Ukraine’s Economy Ministry has raised the alarm: approximately $40 billion in export revenue is threatened by the maritime blockade in the Black Sea. Russian missile strikes targeting port infrastructure around Odesa, intensified since July 2026, have slashed grain export capacity by a third, dropping from 6 million to 4 million tons per month. According to ministry projections, annualized revenue losses could reach between $8 billion and $15 billion depending on the blockade’s duration, and Ukraine’s GDP is expected to decline by 1.5 percentage points this year. President Zelensky has warned of global food security risks, as Ukraine has historically been one of the world’s top exporters of wheat, corn, barley, and sunflower oil.
