President Donald Trump on Friday announced an agreement with Greenland and Denmark granting the United States what he described as permanent control over security and all other needs of the Danish island territory. The United States will immediately begin developing a large military presence in Greenland. This arrangement appears far short of Trump’s previous insistence that Greenland must become part of the United States, while the island has maintained it is not for sale. Trump claimed there would be NO COST to the United States, but Greenland and Denmark have not yet confirmed that a deal has been struck.
