Trump Media pivots away from Bitcoin after $360M in digital asset losses

Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) recorded $360.6 million in digital asset losses during the first half of 2026, including a net loss of $238.1 million in the second quarter alone. The company, which had heavily invested in Bitcoin and accumulated 756.1 million CRO tokens throughout 2025, saw those token holdings plummet to just $40.6 million. It still holds 9,477 BTC valued at approximately $557.1 million as of June 30, down from $836 million earlier in the year. The CRO Strategy deal and ETF partnership with Crypto.com and Yorkville were officially terminated on August 7, 2026. Under interim CEO Kevin McGurn, TMTG is now pivoting toward monetizing Truth Social, its core social media platform, potentially through the introduction of paid features.
