Trump and tech executives sign ‘morally binding’ AI document at White House

On September 29, Donald Trump gathered the most influential figures in artificial intelligence at the White House, including Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Elon Musk (xAI), Sundar Pichai (Google), Jensen Huang (Nvidia) and Greg Brockman (OpenAI), to sign the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence.” The document commits participating companies to implementing internal controls and submitting their most advanced AI models to external audits. The agreement carries no penalties for noncompliance, with Trump himself describing it as “morally binding.” Senator Elizabeth Warren criticized the voluntary nature of the accord, calling it insufficient for technology this consequential. The agreement aligns with the Trump administration’s strategy to keep the United States ahead in AI development relative to China, whose approach to governance is more prescriptive.
