TRON released the mandatory GreatVoyage-v4.8.2.4 upgrade, codenamed Empedocles, on October 23, 2026, and Java-tron node operators must install it. The release improves consistency and stability in edge cases, as well as smart contract storage and metadata handling. These fixes are intended to prevent disruptions to block synchronization. It follows the also mandatory GreatVoyage-v4.8.2.3 release by a little over three weeks, which optimized storage access, BN128 pairing performance and JSON parsing. TRX holders and ordinary users do not need to take any action, while operators must verify the signed binaries and follow the upgrade guides.
